Crocodile, War, Death and Congo

A crocodile caused a plane crash in Bandudu, Congo as one of the passengers hid it in a bag planing to sell it upon his arrival. The crocodile escaped before the plane landed and caused a stir in the  20 passenger plane. 19 of the passengers died and only one survived. The crocodile, also a survivor was later killed by villagers in Bandudu. While this was happening near Kinshasa, in the Kivu region, many were dying not from crocodiles but rather from wars. Women were marching for their rights, while their children are on the streets of Kinshasa and elsewhere doing what they can to stay alive. This is all happening in a country that is rich in minerals and natural resources.

In Congo, planes are described as cercueils volants or  flying coffins because they crash very often and end up killing many passengers. These accidents happen because of the lack of proper maintainance and also because most local planes were purchased many years ago and should be according to security standards  be in a scrapyard. Local airlines posses Russian-made Antonovs which were assembled in the late 60s or early 70s.  It is not surprising that all Congolese carriers are on the blacklist  of airlines banned in the European airspace.
