Kylie Minogue, Ennio Morricone, Khaled, Alicia Keys, Warda al Jazairia and Stevie Wonder attracted thousands in Rabat on a week long festival called Mawazine. As the spectacle was about to end, a stampede occurred; 11 people died and 8 were seriously injured.
Morocco once was known as a very Islamic and conservative country, but now this country is adopting the West's culture, music and style.
King Mohammed is being supported by younger generations that see in him the image of a very balanced Muslim, while conservatives criticize him for leaving behind the rigid laws they once stuck to. The King fully supports this music festival that attracts up to 100.000 spectators.
